Learning in school is a difficult task for teachers/ students. Making it fun is actually the easy part.
Teachers tips to make your lessons multisensory:
* provide hands-on activities instead of just you demostrating the new concept
* switch roles - let them teach the concept back to you - this will help you see if they understand the concept taught and help you see your teaching style through their eyes
* allow students to write on different things instead of just paper - offer them color paper, textured paper
* practice writing on sand, flour, use playdo to practice making letters/ words
* in between transition of activities give children some time to stretch or jump or even sing - this helps them stay on task for the next activities
* have table activities on hand to help with transitions and allows you to give a few minutes for one to one time other students
Parents tips to help make your child's school work multisensory:
* photocopy reading materials and let your child draw pictures to help them visualize their work
* allow your child to read aloud
* change it up for studying for tests - make it into a game or even an obstacle course
* for math practice -provide manipulatives or blocks
* have whiteboard or laminated paper for kids to practice or brainstorm ideas
* relate things learned at school to their daily lives - makes learning meaningful
Going to school and doing homework really shouldn't be boring or a chore. Making learning fun will make your child interested and more willingly to take in the information. Make sure to create positive / fun activities that the child will feel a sense of accomplishment and success. These will be confidence boosters - and you will know when that happens in your child - their success will be endless.
