Skip counting can be fun and personalized. Help them trace their feet and write numbers onto them. Make an obstacle course or create a number circle. Take turns to skip count by 2s, 3s or even random numbers. Have them jump/ climb and they'll have fun learning skip counting. It isn't all about having your student sit across you ... keep it fun by making them move or even sing a song. They will respond to you and feel engaged in the lesson.

I have recently incorporated making videos as an exercise to help students build their confidence. Video recording activities are also useful because the student can be able to see themselves on the screen which makes them feel important and a sense of accomplishment.
Recently, one of my student's parents has told me that they play their daughter's video cheers on their big 50" tv as a family and they try to learn the cheer themselves. They said that every time they see it together her confidence has boosted tremendously. Some activities that you can do with your students: * read a story aloud using a sound their learned * create a cheer with a routine about a word (phonetic/sight words) they learned * use figurines to create a story relating to a concept you are teaching * create a video lesson teaching a concept or sound they have just learned |
